The Algarve on the south coast of Portugal has spectacular picture-postcard beaches and dramatic cliffs and brightly painted fishing villages. To the North the region and is bordered by the beautiful Monchique mountains which create a micro-climate which ensures the year round mild climate.
The Algarve has over 3,000 hours of sunshine, with hot dry summers and mild sunny winters. In springtime the air is filled with the scent of almond blossom and the days are usually warm, with cooler nights. Summer in the Western Algarve sees temperatures of 24 - 30 C, often with a welcoming sea breeze, while autumn is a favourite time of year for many people when temperatures are still hot but the pace is a bit slower and quieter!
Portugal is in the same time zone as UK & Ireland so there is no time-change for travellers from that area. The Western Algarve is perfect if you want a sun holiday in picturesque surroundings where the pace of life is relaxed, the locals are very welcoming, with fantastic foods, even better wines and stunning coastal scenery.

The Blue Flag beach at Praia da Luz is a few minutes walk from the apartment, approached by a pretty paved promenade with palm trees and seats to enjoy the view. It is a pretty low rise village with cobbled streets and a great selection of restaurants and cafe bars, shops, bank and post office, and two water sports centres which provide for all kinds of water sports at the beach. Surfing and diving are very popular and well catered for, with tuition and equipment hire, and transportation to wilder surfing areas in the west. Boa Vista Golf Resort is 5-10 mins drive and a choice of great golf resorts within 30 mins drive. There is cycle hire and horse-riding in the area, also tennis, football and hill and coastal walks.
There is a regular bus service to Lagos, a charming walled town packed full of history, with narrow twisty streets lined with restaurants and shops. You will also find a terrific daily fish market and a weekly farmers market selling fruit and vegetables of all shapes and sizes. Lagos has a large marina and flanked by beautiful sandy beaches.
You can walk along the coastal path from Lagos to Luz and continue for as long as you like towards Cabo de Sao Vicente the most westerly point in Europe, stopping for refreshments on the way. This path is not paved so unsuitable for small children and buggys. Just west of Praia da Luz is Burgau village, one of the many delightful traditional villages dotted along the fabulously scenic coastline, which becomes more wild and wonderful the further west you go!
There are several water parks to the east of Lagos for which tickets/transportation are available locally, and Lagos Zoo makes a enjoyable day out.

Fly to Faro Airport the main airport for the Algarve.
Luz is a 1 hour drive west mostly on the A22 motorway, with no towns to drive through.
A hire car is not necessary but handy for exploring.
A private Transfer is Euro 180 return, door to door.
Arrival time is between 3pm and 10pm The apartment manager meets arriving guests with the Keys, after 10pm there is a Euro 50 call out charge.
