Indonesian Airlines removed from EU Blacklist

Citing safety improvements on July 14th, the European Commission removed four Indonesian airlines from its list of carriers banned from taking off or landing in the EU.

The four carriers- Garuda, Airfast, Mandala, and Premiair had not operated within the EU before the ban was introduced two years ago. The ban was implemented after a several air crashes in Indonesia and reports indicating a deterioration of safety standards since deregulation of the country’s aviation sector in the late 1900’s.

The Commission also indicated that it would allow TAAG Angola Airlines to fly from that country to Portugal, but under strict conditions. EU Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani stated 'It is high time that the international community rethinks its safety policy; those airlines which are unsafe should not be allowed to fly anywhere.'

‘We should gradually move towards an international strategy based on cooperation between countries around the world.' This article is brought to you by Holiday Homes Direct in our effort to keep you up to date on Ireland’s current travel news.
