Casinha Town House. Lagos ,algarve Portugal

Unique townhouse within the walled citadel of Lagos! Gorgeous little townhouse, decorated with imagination and flair, located inside the ancient 14th century town walls of Lagos, from where Henry the Navigator departed to explore the New World. Lagos old town is a fantastic location to absorb the activities and bustle of daily life exploring the winding narrow cobbled streets with shops, restaurant and historic buildings, and busy nightlife, all on your doorstep! A cute little entrance hall leads to the lounge and open plan living area. The cosy lounge has a wood burning stove, TV and ample seating and the bright, spacious kitchen/diner is on a lower level. The very well-equipped kitchen has all the appliances you need and there is lots of crockery, pots, pans and utensils for guests. Off the kitchen, a delightful little patio with a built-in BBQ and a table and chairs completes ...

...the picture. Stairs from the lounge area lead to a pretty bedroom with twin beds, fitted wardrobes, dressing table and air conditioning.. A couple of steps up from the bedroom is the recently revamped bathroom, which features a sunken bath with a shower, a toilet and hand basin. Beside the bathroom is an attractive bright study with a desk and chair, a sofa bed and extra wardrobe space. This is an ambient place to catch up on reading, writing or perhaps sketching. The sofa bed in the study can be availed of by 1 extra person. NB: Casinha is not suitable for toddlers or the infirm because of narrow stairs and extra steps on the first floor. There is no need for a car as you can walk everywhere within the old town. From the waterfront there is a pedestrian bridge to the marina Meia Praia beach, or avail of a tiny ferry-boat to the beach. Cycle-hire is also an option. If you have a car you can use a covered municipal 24 hour car park nearby at reasonable rates.

The ancient walled town of Lagos has a long seafaring tradition with a rich Roman and Moorish history, old fortifications and architecture. Many of the great Portuguese discoveries departed from Lagos, later becoming a centre for important trade with the New World. The old town with delightful cobbled streets radiating back from the waterfront is still contained within the thick, centuries old walls. There's a vibrant atmosphere with cafes, bars, restaurants and shops lining the streets, old churches, a busy morning fish market and there is a modern marina which generates its own activities including offers of cave and coastal cruises. A handy footbridge connects the waterfront promenade with the marina and the 4 km sandy beach at Meia Praia, and there's also a little ferry boat Vai Vem which crosses the river taking a handful of passengers to the other side, a very convenient option for guests staying in Casinha, being only about 5 minutes walk away.
Less than an hour west of Faro Airport, Lagos is a year-round destination, even in winter the town is busy and visitors can visit the old churches, the former slave market, and the beautiful coastline with it's yellow cliffs, caves and sandy beaches. Eating out is a joy, with generous helpings of Portuguese fish, meats and vegetables, not forgetting the local wines to compliment the food, served by friendly staff. Silves, located inland on a hilltop has a huge walled Moorish Castle, around which are historic buildings, narrow twisty streets and storks nesting high up on disused chimney stacks. The Monchique Mountains also to the north are popular for a day trip and the town of the same name has loads of character and local crafts, foods and stunning scenery.

Apart from the old fort, churches and former slave market you can visit the marina and the beaches, enjoy water sports, dolphin spotting cruises, kayaking cave trips, etc. Lagos Zoo is a popular destination as are the water parks, from about 30 mins drive.
