Les Moureaux is a perfect house for a family holiday.. On arrival, and we will provide you with detailed instructions. we provide a welcome pack of bread, eggs, milk and wine. Our excellent managers can be reached on arrival or will come the following morning ensuring that any questions you have may be answered. You may wish to spend your entire time in the house with its spacious and numerous rooms or by the pool or preparing barbecues or simply lounging on the terrace enjoying the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The climate is ideal; in the summer normally hot and dry but owing to the many trees on the property, there are shady corners to savour the shade. If you wish to explore the region, there are wonderful fortress castles in striking distance.. If you are a wine lover, St Emilion, in its medieval splendour is one of the great centres for wine in the world ( 50km) and numerous chateaux can be visited with wine tasting arranged enabling you can stock up wine for your return home. The nearest town (7km) a 13th Century Bastide and will meet all your practical needs. There are several further villages and towns with markets within easy driving distance and of course Bordeaux (94km), the regional capital, a world heritage centre, with art galleries, theatres, opera and world renowned restuaruants. Further afield Arcachon, one of the worlds great beaches giving on to the Atlantic, and nearby in the 'bassin' the harvesting of mussels and oysters of the highest quality is available to those who venture farther afield.

The pool is a good 6mx10m. Last year we changed the pool to salt as this seems to be healthier rather than using chemicals. The tennis court in the village is rarely is a very servicable and there is fishing that can be agreed upon in a large lake within 1 1/2km of the house. There are numerous walks to choose from. In effect your stay can be relaxed and simple or if you wish a more cultured or sportive stay, the region can meet all your needs.

Or you may simply want to choose the amazing cheeses, vegetables, fruits fish (oysters and mussles fresh from arcachon)and meats in the markets and make your stay here a culinary experience enhanced by world class wines.

The Aquitaine Dordogne Region

The Gironde is the largest department of France and Entre Deux Mers (the 'Mers' being the Garonne and the Dordogne Rivers ) is a region of Bordeaux.. The area has a wide variety of attractions... The countryside, the coast, the river valleys, the towns with their historic town centres, the fortress castles steeped in history so often linked to our own, the chateaux that cultivate arguably the worlds greatest wines and the simple joy of the local markets with unparalleled provisions reflecting the emphasis the French place of quality of food. It would be a crime to omit Bordeaux - simply the most beautiful and expertly restored provincial capital in the country and a world heritige site. It is large enough to spend days exploring and small enough to satisfy a few hours of exploring its beautiful city centre. The variety of choice in the Gironde is in comparable and if you chose to venture beyond the confines of our lovely house and grounds there are interests enough for many a week .

Monsegur Area

Every village and town enjoys festivals during the Summer months.. Monsegur is renowned for its Jazz Festival in the month of July.. Most villages have one market a week and many have an additional Wednesday market in evenings - providing entertainment and fun for all the family...Many artisans market their goods on these occasions. Oysters and ussels are shipped in fresh from Arcachon for these markets along with variety of honeys from local bee keepers... Frances smallest village (pop. 67!) lies not far from our house, CastelMoran d'albret linked to Frances most beloved King, Henri lV. It has a wonderful pottery and weekly in the summer pottery classes for children.. 20km away lies St Macaire an amazing medieval town -the 20th and 21st Century have hardly touched it. and in the hills behind the family home of Toulouse Lautrec where he spent his last years and the 'domaine' of the great nobel prize winning author Francois Mauriac, a centre for many literary festivals. The region has everything for every taste, sportive types, those with literary or artisitic tastes or even for those who simply like to pass the day in a cafe watching the world go by...

Getting There

Fly to Bordeaux (1 hour to house) or Bergerac ( 1 hour to house) ) on Easy Jet and Ryan Air or British Airways from Southampton, Gatwick or Heathrow, car hires available at airports.. Ferries from Newhaven to Dieppe (9 hours to house)or Portsmouth to Le Havre (8 hours) , Caen (7 hours) or St Malo (6 hours). We would provide detailed directions to individual guests when they confirm route.

Rental Details

If you have decided to rent our home during the Summer months, we would ask you to speak to us personally to discuss any questions you may have. We would then ask a deposit to be paid in advance (ideally three months in advance to ensure reservation of the house) the final payment would be within a month of rental.The would be returned two weeks after your departure once we confirm that the house has been left as you found it.. We expect reasonable wear and tear and possible breakage of glasses or plates but If more cleaning than is reasonable is required we have to charge 20E an hour. On arrival we will ensure towels and linen are provided and would ask at departure you leave the towels and linen in the kitchen so that our management can remove them to clean. The pool is available (depending on weather) Mid June to Mid September.. The 'skin' is fragile and extremely expensive to replace! so we ask to have nothing pointed near the pool (including children's toys) and ideally to have nothing breakable near the pool. The pool is maintained weekly, and the cabine is locked so there is no access (if any issue we provide telephone numbers to call) We have a simple contract to protect both you and ourselves that we will send for your perusal... looking forward to your stay.

Exterior Details

A large arboured garden with plants and shrubs and fruit trees a pool giving on to extensive views across the valley. The pool is fenced and we have an alarm providing further protection. The entry (via gates) provides excellent parking space and guests can eat on the terrace or in the kitchen or in the dining room. The drawing room is equipped with an excellent library and games for children along with the tennis table in the recreation room on the first floor. Numerous walks tempt our guests in nearby fields and vineyards.
