The Cork Region
Known locally as “Clon”, Clonakilty is the multi-award-winning West Cork town and tourist hub, renowned for its community spirit, warm welcome and numerous festivals; the ideal base for your West Cork holiday.
Clonakilty is a “Foodie Town” and world famous for its Black Pudding. A great selection of eating establishments from coffee shops, through pubs to restaurants to suit every palate. The area has a large choice of gluten-free produce and can be obtained at the award-winning Scally’s SuperValu supermarket and elsewhere. Dairy produce and fish is high on the agenda in West Cork and there are many local farmhouse cheeses to try and the locally landed catch of the day. There are so many great places to eat that our “market research” is happily never-ending. Our local brewery opened in 2016, providing excellent craft beers.
Perfect for the Family Beach Holiday:
Red Strand (3 mins or a 15-mins walk) – safe swimming, popular sandy beach with surfers
Long Strand, Rathbarry, Castlefreke & Kilkern (5 mins) – woods, dunes & beach walking
Sandscove (10 mins walk) – our local beach for swimming, snorkelling & occasional mobile sauna. Popular for sea kayaking
Inchydoney Beach (10 mins) – voted in 2016 for the third year in a row as the best beach in Ireland
Dunnycove Beach (20 mins walk) – for fishing, or a little further on, the little beach at Ballycusheen.
Clonakilty must surely be the festival capital of West Cork, with events throughout the year. The festival and tourist season kicks off in March with the St. Patrick’s Day parade and West Cork Rally. Two stages of the rally are usually held through Ardfield and surrounding roads, so can be viewed after just a short walk from Ballynoe House. The year’s events, including other noted West Cork events, include:
March: Clonakilty Black Pudding West Cork Rally, St. Patrick’s Day Parade
April: Jazz Festival (Ballydehob)
May: Noel Redding Anniversary Gig
