The Leitrim Region
Rooskey is a small picturesque village in the northern midlands of Ireland. Separated by Rooskey Bridge, the village borders counties Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford.
The N4 from Dublin to Sligo passes by the Leitrim side of Rooskey village. With its position on the river Shannon, Rooskey is a well-known tourist destination for anglers as its loughs are well stocked with roach, perch and bream, and the harbour and marina are a busy stop for cruise vessels.
Rooskey village has a number of bars, a supermarket, tackle shop and takeaways. Outdoor activities include adventure centres, parks, and canoeing close by, as well as horse-riding at Haydens Equestrian Centre, and fabulous country and riverside walks. The Rooskey Heritage Festival is held annually in the village, consisting of art exhibitions, family fun, heritage displays, and live music. Rooskey is perfectly situated for trips into nearby Carrick on Shannon famous for its independent shops, cafes and night life, and the Costello Memorial Chapel, reputed to be the second smallest chapel in the world.
Nearby the picturesque village of Drumod hosts The Cavan and Leitrim Railway museum, and the ever-popular and busy Cox's Steakhouse & Bar, as well as other lovely cafes and top-class restaurants.
Just 12km away is Strokestown, which has a golf club, as well as Strokestown Park House and Famine Museum.
By car, we are located just 45 minutes drive away from Knock Ireland West Airport, and just an hour and a half from Dublin Airport.
Local transport links, taxis, buses and train services from Dromod place Longford, Mullingar & Dublin one way, and Carrick on Shannon & Sligo the other, just a short ride away.
