The Provence Region
Provence, France is considered to be a dry temperate region and enjoys, on average, 300 days of sunshine a year with rain falling on a maximum of 90 days. It enjoys long hot sunny days throughout the summer and crisp bright winters. During winter and spring the southern regions of the Cote d'Azur, Provence and the Rhone valley occasionally experience strong winds called 'le Mistral'. Spring is the time of the year, however, when the poppies and sunflowers begin to appear and the air is fresher and cooler than that experienced during the summer months. Temperatures are slightly lower nearer the coast due to the sea breezes.
Marseille, Aix en Provence, Avignon are all within an hour's drive of our self catering villa and slightly further afield you can visit the Camargue, Arles and Nîmes. There are wine chateaux galore to visit, Children love to to visit the zoo at Barben, the giant maze and play park at La Roque d'Antheron and climb amongst the trees (various degrees of difficulty for adults and children) at Charleval and if on site at Pont Royal, there are always the tennis courts, wave pool, two water chutes, horse riding and other activities to consider.
It is a painters' and walkers' paradise with splendid light and walks of various degrees of difficulty.
Pont Royal Area
Walking and cycling are very popular pursuits in the area. Children will enjoy the large zoo at Barben which is a 20 minute drive away. While you are there, the château is also worth a visit. The Parc des Labyrinthes with the largest maze in Europe is in nearby La Roque d'Antheron and the equivalent of "Go Ape" is in Charleval.
Pont Royal is in the heart of Provence. Within easy driving distance are the sophisticated spa town of Aix en Provence and its famous café "Aux Deux Garçons" and historic Avignon with its Palais des Papes and Pont St Benitez (sur le pont d'Avignon...!) During the summer, internationally renowned music and arts festivals take place in Avignon and Aix en Provence. A piano festival also takes place every July in La Roque d'Antheron which is a few minutes' drive from Pont Royal. The bustling sea port of Marseille, the Roman towns of Nîmes and Arles with their amphitheatres, the "villages perchés" of Bonnieux, Gordes and Les Baux de Provence, and the Camargue are all nearby. Isle sur la Sorgue is known worldwide for its famous antiques market which takes place on Sundays. The Mediterranean beaches are within one hour's drive. The Gorges du Verdon are also within driving distance. Cassis and Sanary sur Mer are very pretty seaside towns and are well worth a visit. The list is endless.

As a group our family and friends have been coming down to Mas des Hirondelles since 2010. The house is fabulous and the annexe has always provided great flexibility for teenagers, young adults and couples. The house is beautifully furnished and very well equipped and the managing agent is always available to offer support and information. The views of the Luberon from the terrace cannot be beaten, particularly with a glass or more of rose. There is plenty to occupy any visitors whether that be villages to visit, markets and vineyards to sample or restaurants to enjoy.

Complete relaxation in beautiful Provence!”
I had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous house. I felt completely relaxed the moment we arrived. The setting is amazing - the garden slopes away and then there is just space for miles with the mountains in the background. This stunning view can be enjoyed from the table outside, the pool and the pool annex where I stayed. Everything is immaculate with lots of thoughtful touches that felt more like a hotel than a rental property. The annex particularly was a real treat - I think guests will fight between themselves to stay there! The pool has recently been redone and is a really good size - I also loved the jacuzzi! I can’t wait to go back - and so easy from London. The area is also gorgeous and lots to do - if you can tear yourself away from the pool and view!
