The Lanzarote Region

Lanzarote is situated just 70 miles off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The island is 37 miles (60km) long and 12 miles (20 km) wide, making it the fourth largest island in the Canaries.

Lanzarote enjoys a mild dry climate with average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August. Annual rainfall is just 140mm (5.5 inches). This makes Lanzarote the perfect year-round destination.

As with the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote is Volcanic in origin. Due to the recent eruptions during the 18th and 19th Centuries, many parts of Lanzarote appear to be from another world, often described as 'lunar' or 'Martian', so much so that parts of 'Planet of the Apes' were shot here. The dry climate (and lack of erosion) means that the Volcanic Landscape appears much as it did just after the eruptions.

Amongst the many stunning Volcanic features of Lanzarote is the longest Volcanic Tunnel in the world, the Atlantida Tunnel, which is over 7 km long and includes the La Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua.

Despite the Volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful white beaches such as at Playa Blanca and Papagayo.

Local authority regulations on the amount and style of development mean that there is no billboard advertising and no high rise buildings in Lanzarote (with the exception of the Grand Hotel in Arrecife)

 

Puerto del Carmen Area

This area of Puerto del Carmen is situated to the east of the main town and is quieter than the central area and popular with those who prefer it flatter with easy walking for young and old alike. It has a very good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and the location of our villas in this area mean that a car is not required. Los Pocillos beach starts from the San Antonio hotel and continues to the headland where it becomes the Matagorda beach. The paved promenades and walkways make it perfect for strolling and the beachside cafes offer refreshments and views of the bay. The beach is a big wide sandy beach where sunbeds and umbrellas are for hire or for the more active windsurfing and parasailing are available.

 

Getting There

There are daily flights to Lanzarote with Aer Lingus from Dublin and Cork. This airport is well serviced by charter airlines also. Also a whole new range od inexpensive flights with Ryanair.

Car hire is relatively cheap in Lanzarote. A hire car is the best option for discovering the remote wilderness regions. It only takes about 40 minutes to cross the entire island from North to South by car, and about 25 minutes across.

We offer an airport transfer service run by a reliable local company who will meet you at Lanzarote airport. They will transport you by minibus to your villa or apartment. On your departure day, at a pre-arranged time, they will collect you and return back to the airport for your flight home.

The villa has a front garden and the pool area is at the back of the villa entered through a secure side gate. The pool is ideal for cautious swimmers and children being only just over a metre deep. It is 6.5m x 3m approx in size and has no deep end and is heated during the winter months

The bedrooms are on the ground floor and the living accommodation is on the upper level. From the upstairs lounge there is a door to the balcony where you have views to the sea. The kitchen is off the lounge and there is also a shower room on this level. A lovely feature on the ground floor is another lounge equipped with wicker furniture and a picture window overlooking the pool.
